Overview
Gauri Singh is the Deputy Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), bringing over 30 years of experience in policy, advocacy, and project implementation in renewable energy and sustainable development at both national and international levels.
Before joining IRENA, she held key leadership roles in India’s federal and provincial governments. At the federal level, she played a pivotal role in shaping India’s National Solar Mission in 2010, one of the country’s first major policy frameworks to drive solar energy adoption. At the Madhya Pradesh provincial government, she led rural development initiatives, focusing on poverty reduction, sustainable development, and improving livelihoods for nearly two million women. In Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Singh led livelihood projects based on decentralised renewable energy solutions to support rural artisans and ran an ambitious intervention with communities to restore the flow of 40 rivers across the state, based on the use of remote sensing maps.
Previously, Ms. Singh served as Director of Country Support and Partnerships at IRENA, where she oversaw regional and national initiatives, strengthening partnerships with key energy and economic organizations worldwide.
